A homicide investigation is underway in Tulsa after a man's body was found inside a car near 56th Street North and Lewis.

The family said the victim's name is James, but they called him J.J. They said they watched a football game with him Sunday night and not even 24 hours later, they were called to the crime scene.

"We all know that people do bad things in this world. Whatever this person was trying to get from my cousin, his life wasn't worth it," said Terrence Dorsey.

Detectives with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office are trying to piece together the last few hours of a man's life, after he was found dead in his car Monday morning.

"This morning, the woman who lives in the home behind me took her son to school, saw this white vehicle there, she knows the man who generally drives it. Saw him sitting there but she was in a hurry to get her son to school," said Casey Roebuck with TCSO. "The woman who lives here says he never has actually been in the house. He is an associate of hers but because she has young children, she never allowed him in the house."

The woman dropped her child off at school, came home a few minutes later to check on her friend and realized he was dead.

"He had been leaving her voicemails and trying to communicate with her by phone until about 1 o'clock this morning," said Roebuck. "At this point we don't have any reason to believe that she was involved. There are obvious signs of trauma to the body, but we can't tell yet if he has been shot, stabbed or both."

The medical examiner will now work to figure out how the victim died.

"He had struggles in his life, we all do. I don't think he really deserved this," said Dorsey. "Now his kids and his whole family is grieving."

If you have any information, you can call the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office or you can call Crimestoppers at 918-596-COPS and your tips will remain anonymous.
