On the eve of President Biden traveling to Scotland for the 2021 Climate Conference, Oklahoma Senator James Lankford joined other Republican Senators in blasting the administration’s energy policy and raising concern that any pledge he makes to further reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions will only make domestic energy prices higher than they already are.
The per-gallon price of gasoline has risen about a dollar since Biden took office nine months ago and Lankford says, while higher prices do help the state’s powerful oil and gas industry, there is a point at which they are too high and do more harm than good. He says, with crude now around $85 per barrel, we are beyond that point.
At the news conference, the Senators said the country needs an ‘all-of-the-above approach to energy, which can still reduce emissions, be good for the industry and for consumers. They say the President has clearly ‘declared war’ on carbon-based energy.
