Tulsa 6th Graders Team With Salvation Army To Buy Christmas Gifts For Less Fortunate

A group of Tulsa sixth-graders gave back today by buying Christmas gifts as part of the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program.

The 54 students from Monte Cassino had to earn the money they used. Those students started on the program back in September working to raise money to buy gifts for those less fortunate. The sixth-graders participated in different acts of kindness to earn the money.

Teachers at the school say the kids completed 200 different individual acts to raise a total of 72 hundred dollars.

"They do all kinds of things. Like chores around the house. They most likely made all the Thanksgiving Day meals and cleaned that up for donations,” said Mrs. Wilson, a sixth-grade teacher. “Their family would give donations. We have some events on campus where our campus community also donates."

Tuesday, all of the students gathered at Woodland Hills Mall to choose an angel to buy gifts for other kids and they shopped at different places in the area.

The Salvation Army says the public can also take part.

"You can come here to Woodland Hills Mall and adopt an angel off of this big tree,” said Jenny Swyden with the Salvation Army. “You can also visit www.salarmytulsa.org and you can actually adopt an angel online.”

The deadline to donate toys is December 10th.
