After more than three decades, the City of Glenpool rededicated its veterans memorial.
The memorial was first dedicated 30 years ago and Louise Johnson said her vision of what the Glenpool Veterans Memorial could be has been 30 years in the making.
”This means the world to me. When I saw what the city had done, it went years nobody would do anything, and my husband and I couldn’t do anything, so when the city took it over and started all of this, I was so thrilled. It's beautiful , it's beautiful”, said Louise Johnson, Creator
Now Johnson is able to see this all come to life. This city rededicated the memorial on Tuesday, showcasing its new look, flag poles representing each branch of the military and a walkway with bricks dedicated to Glenpool veterans.
”It shows that the community supports its veterans undeniable, and I couldn’t be happier with the support we have gotten throughout this process”, said Aaron Allen, Glenpool VFW.
Aaron Allen with the Glenpool VFW says as a veteran himself it warms his heart to see this new memorial.
He says the city raised the money for the memorial and it will be a great place for those in the area.
”I think that we have provided a great place that can be used for educational purposes to help children understand what veterans do for the country how they have helped secure our freedoms,” said Allen.
Johnson says while this memorial means a lot to her, she knows it means even more to those who have served.
”I think they're very proud, we’ve had several from here in service, I don’t know how many were here today but I’m sure they're very happy it's done," said Johnson.
