After powerful winds roared across the state yesterday, we'll see much lower wind speeds today. No wind advisories or wind warnings will be required. Northeast winds near 10 to 20 mph are expected with highs reaching the mid to upper 50s with a sunshine-cloud mix. You may notice smoky-hazy-filled sky conditions at times due to yesterday’s strong winds bringing smoke and dust from western OK into our part of the state.
A few showers and storms will linger near and south of the area this morning as a cold front slowly sags southward and stalls later today across southern OK. Later tonight into early Friday morning as the next upper-level impulse nears the plains, the front will begin migrating northward as a warm front with additional showers and storms likely along the cool-side of the front. Locally heavy rainfall is possible in the corridor between I-40 and I-44 Friday midday to afternoon. Any severe threats will be also co-located near or slightly south of the boundary through this period. By Friday evening, another strong surge of colder air arrives and will shove the boundary out of the area bringing much colder and drier conditions into the state for the weekend. Saturday morning starts in the 30s but with wind chill values into the mid-20s. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-40s with gusty north winds. Sunday morning starts with temps into the upper teens to lower 20s before climbing to near 50 by afternoon as south winds gradually return at 10 to 15 mph. Another upper-level system will move across part of Texas Sunday evening into Monday bringing a low chance for a few showers near or south of the area Monday, but higher chances currently reside along the Red River Valley. The pattern will support chilly weather for a few days next week followed by another modest warm-up before a strong front nears Christmas weekend. Precipitation chances currently remain low for the extended period.
Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
