A Checotah 7-year-old is credited with saving her family, including her 5-month-old brother, when their home caught fire. The family of four and their two dogs made it out safely, but they lost almost everything else.
The Silvas said the fire started in the garage. Ava was in the living room when she heard a noise. She ran out the front door and onto the porch. That's when she saw the flames and ran back inside to wake up her parents."
"I really, really miss our house," said Ava.
Eva is 7 years old; she just wants her stuff back
"My Alexa, my phone, my trampoline, and my dogs. All of my stuff. My posters" said Ava.
Eva said it keeps coming back to her.
"I started [hearing] crackling," said Ava.
She was asleep early Sunday morning when around 3 a.m. she was startled awake.
"I woke up and saw the fire through the kitchen. It was reddish, orangish," said Ava.
Ava ran outside to see what was happening.
"I already know what to do cause I'm really smart," said Ava.
Her mom Joella Silva said she doesn't know what they would've done without her daughter's help.
"She just started screaming, 'Mom there's a fire. I don't know what's going on. There's a fire. Run," said Joella.
Ava's mom Joella said her husband rushed to grab their 5-month-old son, and they all ran across the street as their house burned to the ground.
"My husband and I just got married last year and we were still building everything up," said Silva.
Joella said the smoke detectors never went off. She believes her daughter is a hero. In fact, Ava was supposed to be staying at a friend's house Saturday night but felt the urge to come home.
"Something just kept telling her I think something was going to be wrong that night and I think it was probably God," said Joella.
The Silvas were able to save was an outdoor "S" that hung outside.
"I think this is a symbol that all that we have right now is family and that's what's most important," said Joella.
Now, Ava said she doesn't know how to feel.
"Sad. Sad and angry," said Joella.
Joella, however, is thankful.
"The outpour of love and support, has, it's almost overwhelming and like I couldn't be more thankful because without everybody helping us, I mean, we would be homeless," said Joella.
The Silvas are staying with friends and family for now. They are accepting all kinds of donations HERE.
