Oklahoma Colleges See Drop In Students Entering Teaching Programs

Some Oklahoma colleges are ending their teacher preparatory programs as a result of a significant drop in students interested in the career of teaching.

Oklahoma City University says it noticed the decline begin about 10 years ago. Now, there are only three students left in its elementary education program.

The program's director thinks some financial incentives could help change the trend.

She says the biggest reason students aren't going into teaching is the low salaries.
