Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin is calling on people living in the area of 61st and Peoria to help with new efforts to limit violence in the area. A collaboration of people met last week to discuss new ways to make the area safer.

Police, business owners and apartment managers talked about ways to bring violence down. Tulsa Police say six murders and dozens of shootings were investigated in the area during 2021.

The Police Department now has different divisions working in the area. Chief Franklin says the location has been a problem for decades and is asking people living there to keep their eyes open and come forward with information that can help them out.

“We would much rather have people let us know who’s carrying guns [and] what’s going on in that area so that we can quash that down before there’s any bullets flying,” said Franklin.

Tulsa police will maintain a strong presence in the area. The group of leaders plans to meet once a month to find ways to bring crime down.
