Icy, wintry weather is keeping fighters from making it to an MMA fight at the Civic Center in Muskogee.
Organizers and promoters were forced to postpone the event.
The cancellation was a nightmare situation for River City Fights promoter, Ty Pilgrim.
His fighters, Alfred Walker and Cameron Veales were surprised at first but they're used to rolling with the punches.
“I said, ‘Yeah it isn't gonna get that bad.’ I get up the next morning, we got to meet at the Civic Center. This is going on. It’s like, ‘Oh this is real,'" Walker said.
Veales found the silver lining in one more week of preparation.
“It really didn’t throw me off," he said. "I was like, ‘Okay sweet.’ You know one more week to get my mind game ready."
Pilgrim said after making a few phone calls everything fell in place for next week.
“Because now it was vital to get everybody pushed over for a week without losing any momentum or any personnel," he said.
For Walker and Veales, keeping the momentum up is personal.
They both grew up and train in Muskogee.
They have literally put their blood and sweat into making River City Fights work.
"It’s not just a fight, it’s a movement," Walker said. “Just the support that I’m getting, it always gives me shivers down my spine.”
There’s still time to come down and check out the fight yourself.
It’s rescheduled for next Saturday, February 12th at 6:00 p.m.
