A group of protestors and priests were outside of the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, opposing the execution of Gilbert Postelle. They said killing isn’t justice.
Oklahoma priests held a peaceful prayer vigil at 9 a.m., near the front gate of the prison to protest the use of the death penalty.
They prayed for all four people murdered by Postelle, as well as their families.
They also prayed for Postelle, his family, and the correction officers participating in the execution.
A national group called Death Penalty Action was also at the penitentiary. They have been at every execution since Oklahoma resumed executions in October.
They said death is not justice. They would like to see the death penalty abolished across the country.
“We feel awful about what happened to them and their family but killing somebody won’t solve anything,” said Tom Gallagher, with the Oklahoma Coalition to Abolish The Death Penalty.
Protestors said there’s enough killing and violence in this world and executions add to it.
