For many students, spring break is next week, and the YMCA of Greater Tulsa is gearing up for campers.
If your family is staying in town, this day camp is a way for kids to have new experiences without leaving Tulsa.
From sports like basketball to canoeing and hiking, it's like summer camp but in the spring.
It’s a place where kids can get outside, explore, and have the chance to make new friends.
Green Country YMCA locations in Owasso, Bixby, and Tulsa are getting ready for School's Out Day Camps. Next Monday through Friday during spring break, kids can experience full day of activities including a focus on STEAM. Other activities include a zip line, a ropes course, a 130-foot slide, fishing, kayaking, and arts and crafts.
The YMCA provides scholarships for anyone with a financial need.
Vice President of Mission Advancement Kyle Wilkes says it's a chance for kids to be in nature and interact with other kids. He says besides having fun, kids can also develop social skills and practice independence like deciding which activities they want to do.
"It's going to be an opportunity for our kids to be able to come back together after a time where we've seen a lot of virtual learning,” Wilkes said. “We’re really excited to be able to see the kids coming through this gate for old friends to reunite, for new friends to meet in a diverse location."
Registration for the spring break camp is open until Friday.
