An Owasso woman says most of her family is trapped in Ukraine and she's terrified about their safety.
Nadiia Williams lives with her husband Kenneth in Owasso. She and Kenneth are by the phone every day waiting for updates, as some of her family members take cover in the country.
"They're still in a major part of the war zones," said Kenneth/
Nadiia and Kenneth Williams say hearing about the devastation in Ukraine hits close to home.
Nadiia moved to Owasso from Ukraine after meeting Kenneth 11 years ago while he was traveling, but her whole family is still in the country.
"They lived a normal life there until this happened," said Kenneth.
Their daughter, son-in-law, grandson, nieces, and nephews are still unable to leave Ukraine but are safe right now.
Nadiia says it's horrifying to hear what's happening there.
"It's bombs in every city," Nadiia said. "They don't care. They bomb hospitals, they kill kids."
Nadiia says she knows a woman who is housing 35 people right now and everyone in the country is pulling together to help. She said her nephew works for a gas company and has to turn off gas all over his city so fires can't spread.
"He's needed at a moment's notice if gas is leaking somewhere," said Kenneth.
"They pray, they pray, they don't sleep, they are so tired," said Nadiia.
Nadiia said the people of Ukraine are resilient and strong and now they need help more than ever.
"They're very strong, they are so strong, a strong country," Nadiia said. "We like peace we work hard we don't want war."
Nadiia said her grandson and daughter have visas so she's hopeful they'll be able to leave the country.
