News On 6 is teaming up with Every Kid Counts Oklahoma to recognize innovative teachers from across Green Country. This week, we’re recognizing Amanda Teague, a Pre-K teacher at Lewis and Clark Elementary.
"She teaches Pre-kindergarten, and they study the real world and develop vocabulary through play based learning. When I walk into her classroom, her students can explain what they are learning about in each station.
For example, they created their home environment and learned how to do things like laundry and cooking. She added to the "play" tools because when the students had to "cook" dinner, she had created a recipe with pictures so students can follow the directions.
They learned healthcare and showed me how to take blood pressure with their learning materials. It is play based and hands on and connects to the real world. Students’ express creativity and imagination and develop their vocabulary while learning how to interact with their peers.
They studied how to take care of personal hygiene and brushed giant teeth with toothpaste. Now they are studying to pets and vets."
