41 of the best anglers are competing in The Major League Fishing REDCREST Championship at Grand Lake for a $300,000 prize. This is the first time the Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour has made a stop here at Grand Lake but Grand Lake is no stranger to big tournaments, having hosted the BassMaster Classic in 2016.
This five-day championship tournament starts with 41 competitors on Wednesday and Thursday then the field will be cut to 20 on Friday, then cut to 10 for championship Sunday. There are three Oklahomans in the field, James Elam from Tulsa, Zack Birge from Blanchard, and Edwin Evers who is very familiar with fishing this lake.
“It’s really neat because Tulsa is really the heartbeat of bass fishing. You think about all the great companies that come from Tulsa, there’s just too many to name. Then to have Major League Fishing come in here and start this whole trail here, is really really exciting,” said Evers.
