A warm and breezy Monday is expected before storm chances return to the metro.

Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:

A strong upper-level low located off the west coast Monday morning will move eastward during the afternoon and evening bringing gusty south winds over the next 24 to 36 hours across the southern plains. Low level moisture, slow to return on Monday, will quickly move into the area tonight and Tuesday. As the strong upper-level system nears the state Tuesday afternoon and evening, shower and thunderstorm chances will be increasing during these periods. Initially, a layer of warm air aloft should cap the atmosphere from thunderstorms for most of Tuesday. Late Tuesday evening, a dry line moves quickly across western Oklahoma as a cold front approaches the northwestern third of the state. Strong upper-level winds will combine with these features to produce thunderstorms across the region. Some storms may be strong to severe late Tuesday night and pre-dawn Wednesday. Main threat will be damaging wind. Parameters would support the mention of a spin-up circulations along the leading edge of thunderstorms.

Temps & Rain Chances

Thunderstorm threats should exit the area early Wednesday morning, but additional scattered showers and storms may persist for several hours as the upper air trough moves across Eastern Oklahoma. Additionally, temperatures will be falling through the day. Wednesday morning starts in the 60s then falls into the upper 40s and lower 50s Wednesday afternoon as the cold front moves across the area with gusty northwest winds. Another system will be nearing the area late Friday night into Saturday, bringing a mention for additional scattered showers and storms.

Rain Timeline

Temperatures both today and tomorrow will be well above seasonal averages. Afternoon highs today will reach the mid to upper 70s with Tuesday readings in the upper 70s to lower 80s despite mostly cloudy conditions and strong south winds. Fire spread rates will continue to increase today and Tuesday.
