About 3,000 volunteers are on the ground at Southern Hills helping make the PGA Championship come to life.

The volunteers in their blue polos are scattered across 40 to 50 committees.

Organizers say it's usually no small task getting that many people on board for an event, but Tulsa showed out!

Some of the responsibilities include serving as marshals on the course, shuttling spectators with disabilities and working at the merchandise site.

Tournament Director Bryan Karns says the volunteers are often doing odd jobs that go unnoticed, but their excitement and hard work contribute to making the championship a success.

But the fact that we didn't really have any issues filling those positions just shows you the excitement level, again we've got so many great volunteers who have volunteered in 2007 and 2001 and 94, people just really see it as a rite of passage," said Karns.

Organizers say the big response from volunteers plays a part in attracting other big events to Tulsa.
