Sunday marks 21 years since the Sept. 11 attacks when hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.

First responders from all over Tulsa will gather to climb 110 floors Sunday at the First Place Tower in downtown Tulsa, the equivalent of the 110 stories in the World Trade Center.

Participating firefighters will climb the stairs in their bunker gear, which weighs about 60 to 65 pounds.

Coordinator Matt Lay said although it's challenging, this tribute puts in perspective the sacrifice these men and women gave during the attacks, so that others might live.

"It's just an opportunity for us to pause and to reflect and also a time of sacrifice and a token of suffering that the first responders and the people that were in the building went through to keep their memories alive," Lay said.

All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Hydrants of Hope Charity to help children fighting cancer.
