An Oklahoma man is now recognized as one of the top archers in the world after taking home third place at the World Long Bow Championships in Italy.
Shiloh Butts from Sulphur, Oklahoma said he never thought that he would get to represent the USA doing what he loves the most, archery. But he says taking home a bronze medal against 50 of the best archers in the world is extra special.
Shiloh just got returned from Italy after spending a whole week competing at the World 3D Championships. He's been competing in archery since he was 13, and qualfied for Team USA back in June.
The trip was 100% self funded, but a friend of Shiloh's set up a raffle to help raise money to pay for the trip. Shiloh said he had support from across the country.
"You're representing the USA but also, not only that it is the people you know personally that helped me for years and years throughout my archery career. Thats the ones where its really set in and weighed on me, it's like man, I really have this USA jersey with my name on the back, which is just incredible," said Butts.
Shiloh says he hopes to qualify for Team USA again next year and get another shot at competing in the world championships.
