Thursday is the first day of fall and the Tulsa Botanic Garden is preparing to ring in the season.
At “Autumn in the Botanic Garden,” visitors can pick out a pumpkin, look at the scarecrows, or go through the Oklahoma hay maze.
Pumpkins of different shapes, colors, and sizes decorate the garden, and there are unique types to see.
"We have 20,000 plus pounds of pumpkins, about 14 different kinds, so we have a lot of different kinds you may not see in the regular stores and stuff,” said Lori Hutson, Tulsa Botanic Garden Director of Communications and Outreach.
Visitors will also be greeted by more than 30 themed scarecrows. The scarecrow competition is an annual tradition. Businesses, non-profits, groups, and artists can create one -- to use as a decoration in the garden.
Hutson says visitors can vote on their favorite.
"Every year, it's amazing to see the creativity of everyone that comes out. So, every year, it's different and every year, people really look forward to it,” Hutson said.
Each Thursday through October, guests can stroll the pathways and listen to live music for Bands and Blooms.
Local musicians will perform, including a band on tour from Canada. In October, kids can go trick-or-treating.
"Just in general, it's probably one of my favorite times of the year to visit the garden. Everything's been growing over the summer, it's about as lush as we can get before we really get into our winter time,” Hutson said.
