The City of Hope Outreach group is giving away coats, gloves, and hand warmers to anyone who needs it as temperatures drop in Tulsa.

The group spent Tuesday morning responding to calls for people who needed help getting through the cold. Those they helped say they were grateful.

"Because it's extremely cold out here and there's a lot of us that don't have the resources or the help or the money to get a coat of their own, and we'll be grateful," said Jessica Corley.

Jon Maust runs City of Hope and hopes more people will look around the house and find something to donate to someone who needs it.

"Most people have a closet that's got blankets that they don't use, or maybe even some old comforters or something like that,” said Maust. “Or warm clothing items. An extra coat, sweatshirt, things like that. And those items can be very helpful.”

He said it’s important for him to find ways he can give back and help others.

"At the end of the day, the people on the street are our neighbors, they are fellow Tulsans, and we want to take care of our neighbors,” Maust said. “We want to love our neighbors and do unto them as we would have them do unto us. If I was on the street cold, I would want somebody to be humane enough to give me what I need to be able to be warm in the cold weather."

Corley said it's hard to ask for help, but she’s thankful for those who offer it.

"We don't like asking for help, it's embarrassing sometimes,” said Corley. “But it would be greatly appreciated."

What the City of Hope currently needs the most is blankets. If you have any blankets you would like to donate, you can go to your local area Jiffy Lube and they will collect donations there.

You can also give them a call if you need help or if you see someone who might need help at 1-877-HOPE-918 or 1-877-467-3918.
