A man already on probation for breaking into people's cars is now charged again for the very same crime. Detectives have been investigating a string of car break-ins in the Tulsa area over the last several months.
Police said Keith Overstreet is responsible for them.
Investigators said Overstreet is no stranger to the system and continues to cause problems when he isn't behind bars.
Records show Overstreet has been in and out of prison since 1989 for crimes committed in Woodward, Oklahoma and Tulsa Counties for assault, grand larceny, stolen property and burglary.
He just pleaded guilty to burglary in Tulsa County in March and was sentenced to specialty court, but the new charges violate the terms of his probation.
"It's a property crime so there's not a whole lot of time in prison or off the streets," said Lt. Tim Means, TPD Burglary Unit.
Detectives have been investigating a series of car break-ins in the Tulsa area over the last several months and said Overstreet could be connected to several dozen of them.
"He's known to watch females exit a vehicle and it's normally at parks or places like that where the vehicles are unattended, so when they walk away, he'll go look in the car, break the window and steal the purse," said Means.
Lt. Tim Means said police served a search warrant last week and found several stolen items inside Overstreet's home including handbags, jewelry, electronics, knives and pepper spray.
Overstreet is charged with burglary and using someone else's credit cards.
"Typically, what he does is he goes and uses credit cards right away before the victims even know their stuff is gone and purchases items with them," said Lt. Means.
Means said the best protection is to always lock your vehicle and never leave anything inside it. Detectives are trying to find all the victims and get them their stuff back.
