Families Gather At Lacy Park In Tulsa For Halloween Carnival

Families are having some fun this Halloween night. Kids now have baskets full of candy after the Halloween Carnival at Lacy Park.

The Halloween Carnival is finally back after three long years, but the kids said all the fun made it feel like it never even left.

The Scott family said a trip to the Halloween Carnival is tradition. "We've been doing this in 15 years. We do this every year," said Pam.

It all started 34 years ago.

"The Black officer coalition started this in 1988. We wanted to have a safe place for people to get candy on Halloween," said Lt. Dedlorn Sanders.

It started with the Black Officers Coalition and later Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated joined to create the carnival.

Lt. Sanders said it helps strengthen the community, especially with officers.

"My favorite part is having all these families come here in the gym and have a good time," said Sanders.

There's music and fun for everyone.

"Very playful, uhm, family oriented," said Nicole, Scott family.

Houston, the youngest of the family, said he loves the Halloween Carnival because for the games.

"Play and have some fun," said Houston.

Some kids love the carnival for one reason and one reason only.

"Mm, yeah candy. Candy," said Natalie.

That candy will probably be gone by tomorrow night, but the Scott family said the memories from the Halloween Carnival will last a lifetime.

"Bring us together. To be as one and to just have fun with each other. And I think that's most important, to have fun," said Pam.
