The Oklahoma Department of Transportation wants to clear up some confusion about construction on US-169 between Owasso and Collinsville. A contractor is working on a pavement rehabilitation project in the northbound lanes from 106th street north to 146th street north. It is the same project that ODOT completed a few years ago on the southbound lanes of US-169.
Part of that process includes laying down new concrete. While the work to replace the old concrete is finished in one lane, the road is still a little rough. However, ODOT said that there is another step coming for both lanes. This step will make the roads much smoother once it's completed, but it won't be done until towards the end of the project.
"They have to bring another machine to do that diamond grinding, and then it just is more economical and feasible for the contractor to bring that in at the end of the project as opposed to doing it and bringing it once for one lane and once for the other," TJ Gerlach, ODOT's spokesperson said.
Gerlach expects the project to be completed sometime in late winter or early spring, and while the rougher ride on the open lanes on US-169 isn't ideal, Gerlach wants to assure drivers that it won't stay in its current condition permanently.
