Rose State Offering New Degree Program

To help keep up with the demand for workers in science-based industries, Rose State College is now offering a new associates degree.

 Dean of Science and Engineering at Rose State College, Ryan Stoddard said they are the first community college in the state to offer an associate of science degree in data science and analytics.

"It's used in a lot of industries, many of which are vital to Oklahoma," Stoddard said.

Stoddard also said the field requires much dedication and a strong work ethic.

"Anyone who has a work ethic and is generally focused on their studies can do well in this area," Stoddard said. "If, however, you are not willing to learn calculus or science, it might not be the field for you."

Many local industries are looking to hire in scientific fields, which means many who go through the program may find it easier to find a job after graduation, according to Stoddard.

"Many of these local industry partners that we have will hire someone with an associate degree... to join them right away," Stoddard said.

Stoddard said if prospective students are looking to continue their education after Rose State, the college has an agreement with other local universities, including the University of Oklahoma.

"They [local colleges] will transfer this degree seamlessly," Stoddard said. "We think it's a perfect opportunity for students to get started in this very in demanding field."
