The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office is better equipped to save lives during emergencies.
Everyday, deputies come across a critical situation where lives are at risk, whether it's a shooting, stabbing, or car wreck. They say they are thankful to have these kits.
Sheriff Walton says the individual officer trauma kits contain supplies for treating life-threatening, traumatic injuries in a field environment before certified medical assistance reach the scene.
"I wish that no law enforcement officer would ever have to show up to work not having one of these," Walton said.
The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office recently made the request for emergency belt trauma kits to The United States Deputy Sheriff's Association, a non-profit that supports law enforcement.
"Through their organization they give away small medic bags which are full of several items,” Walton said.
The trauma kits typically include gloves, a tourniquet, a pressure bandage, and a hemostatic dressing, or a tool used to minimize bleeding. Walton says this equipment can be lifesaving and even though these are essential items, not every agency has these available for their staff.
"We often are at the mercy of a non-profit or charity, or having a bake sale or a car wash to get items you really need to save lives. Whether that's a citizen’s life or an officer themselves," Walton said.
He says they are very grateful and hopes anyone in law enforcement can have these while on duty.
"What a terrible feeling it would be, what a tragedy it would be to know that if this was present an officer’s life could be saved or for that matter anyone’s life could be saved," Walton said.
The emergency belt trauma kits are portable and can always be kept close by if needed.
