Home repair experts are warning homeowners as we approach the changing of seasons.
Warm and moist air can lead to the possibility of mold.
A new season means out with the old and in with the new.
When you're spring cleaning your home, there's something else to pay attention to.
"As seasons change, you know, especially coming from winter to spring as things are starting to warm up, high humidity and higher temperatures can start to cause growth problems with mold,” said MaRanda and Stephen Kerley, owners of 1-800 Water Damage of Greater Northwest Tulsa and Owasso.
They say there are precautions you can take to ensure your home is mold-free.
The humidity inside your home should be between 40 and 60 percent.
With ever-changing Oklahoma weather, the stark shift in temperatures is the perfect storm for mold growth.
MaRanda says the best thing you can do is prevent it from happening in the first place.
She recommends starting from the outside.
"Check your roof, check for any kind of leaks, check your gutters and make sure they are free flowing and not collecting water,” MaRanda said.
She says inside, make sure windows are sealed.
Check the AC condensation pans and the water heater to make sure they aren't collecting water. Another good place to check are your washing machine supply lines.
"Always trust your senses. If you smell anything musty, there's going to be mold somewhere,” MaRanda said.
She says another sign is consistent allergies inside your home.
