Major League Fishing’s REDCREST Championship kicks off day two on Thursday morning.
Three Oklahoma pros are in North Carolina fishing Lake Norman for the $300,000 dollar prize.
Talala’s Edwin Evers finished the day one qualifying rounds in third place, while Blanchard’s Zack Birge took the 10th spot and Tulsa’s James Elam finished in 29th.
Evers had a total weight of 15 pounds 6 ounces, including a 6-pound bass to start the day.
“Man we had a 6-pound bite, which is like a unicorn here, a largemouth. Super exciting, I barely had the fish hooked. I think my GoPros were running which is kind of exciting. Cool lake, though, I’m just excited to get that bite, just got to capitalize on it and put some more fish with it,” said Evers.
The 6-pound catch was the tournament’s big fish of the day, earning Evers $1,000. It also gave him some comfort, allowing him to use a lot of the day to scout the lake for the days ahead.
The Oklahoma guys have to finish in the top 20 on Thursday to make it to the knockout round on Friday.
The final championship round is set to take place on Sunday.
