Bartlesville Police are investigating a homicide that happened at the Brookhaven Apartments.
Officers came to the apartment complex near West 14th Street and South Santa Fe Avenue after getting a call about a shooting. Ida Effress lived at the complex for seven years and was in the process of moving out when she saw someone in a white van with plastic on the windows driving around before the shooting happened Wednesday.
"I thought it was kind of weird how they crept down the street and then in, but I didn't really think anything about it. I am normally not out at three something in the morning,” Effress said.
The driver of the van left shortly after the shooting. Police found it abandoned a few blocks away and Captain Andrew Brown says they are currently looking for Joseph "Breezy" Brown and Amber King because they might have some information about what happened.
"We are still trying to figure out what the story is. We got several stories and several witnesses, and we are still in the process of determining what happened,” Brown said.
Effress says this incident hits a little closer to home because she knew the victim.
"He would always come by and talk to me or my boyfriend,’ Effress said. We would give him rides places. To me and my family, he was a sweet guy."
While the police are still looking for more information, Effress says she's happy to be leaving the complex.
"I feel a little bit more at ease that I am not going to be here after that,” Effress said.
Bartlesville Police are asking for anyone with information on where Brown and King could be to call them at 918-338-4001. This is the first homicide that has happened in the city of Bartlesville since early 2022.
