News On 6 talked with the attorney for Stormy Daniels after an indictment against former president Donald Trump was announced Thursday.
Trump is accused of giving money to Daniels to hide an affair; allegations he strongly denies.
Attorney Clark Brewster wants to emphasize that there is no joy in seeing a former president indicted. However, he thinks the legal process needs to run its course.
Brewster said former president Donald Trump's indictment is something he respects, but he isn’t celebrating.
"You have to respect the people that follow him," said Brewster. "I feel bad for those people and for him and his family.”
Brewster has been representing Stormy Daniels for several years and said she wants the truth to be told.
“She’s very funny, quick-witted, smart, and I think more than anything she has been driven by the idea that she wants the truth to be known," said Brewster.
Brewster said he respects the decision from the grand jury and added that no one is above the law.
"This grand jury spent a good deal of time going through evidence and made a decision based on the law, there was a crime committed. And I have respect for that,” Brewster said.
He said he's tried to remain out of the media in recent months to let prosecutors do their jobs, something Daniels asked him to do.
He has faith truth will come out at the end of this process.
“Maybe this is a situation where truth will carry the day," he said. "I wanted to do a local piece because I wanted to express clearly that there is no joy in seeing a president indicted.”
Brewster said as for what happens next, Daniels is ready to be a witness in the case.
