More volunteers are needed to help Kellyville's Volunteer Fire Department.
The department is looking for both firefighters and EMTs because manpower is down and they are having to rely on neighboring agencies. Chief Matt Staiger said as the community continues to grow their run times increase and so does the need for volunteers.
Last year, the department responded to 350 calls and Chief Staiger said each year that number increases by 40 to 50 calls. He says the need for more staff remains key to being able to meet the demand for service.
"The reason they are busy this time of year is because of our high winds and changing weather back and forth they blow out of the north one day and the south the next. All the one-hour fuel moisture which is our grasses our light vegetation is extremely dry, so it just takes a little bit of wind to dry that out and it's ready to burn again," said Staiger.
If you are interested in volunteering you can go on the team's Facebook page or stop by the fire department for an application.
