Friends, Co-Workers Remember Chouteau Teacher Killed In Crash

Friends and co-workers are remembering a Chouteau teacher who was killed in a crash last week on the Broken Arrow Expressway. Shelly Snodgrass taught second grade at Chouteau Elementary for years.

Outside of her classroom, students and teachers are writing notes on poster boards about how they will miss her.

“You can see how much love she poured out because now they’re pouring out love,” said Annette Matlock, a Chouteau teacher who worked with Snodgrass.

Others said she had a real passion for the job.

“Her calling was teaching,” said Kathy Cochran, a Chouteau teacher whose classroom was next door. “She did an awesome job.”

Cochran said she worked in the district with Snodgrass for 16 years. She will also be remembered for her big smile and sense of style.

“She would always keep about two changes of clothes in her classroom in case she came to school and she didn’t like what she had on,” said Angela Hutchinson, a former Chouteau teacher who now works as a substitute.

Outside of the classroom, she loved running with her son. They were a part of Ainsley’s Angels, a group dedicated to those with special needs.

“All of the parents and kids and runners that have met Shelly over the years have just fallen in love with her,” said Jana Rugg, the local ambassador for the nonprofit.

The Chouteau school district is offering counseling to students and staff who are now working through their grief.

Shelly’s co-workers said they are still in shock that she’s gone.

“She was a great teacher, she was honest, she was loving,” said Cochran. “Her students loved her, she loved her students.”

All Chouteau classes are canceled Tuesday, April, 11, so everyone can attend Snodgrass’ funeral.
