Employees at Williams Energy have spent the day painting the handrails of the MLK bridge downtown.
They joined forces with Downtown Tulsa Partnership and hope to continue giving back to the city. Williams employees were busy Thursday painting the handrails of the bridge and beautifying the area, and this is just the start of a whole week of service.
The cracked paint and run-down handrails along the popular Boulder Avenue bridge between Archer and 1st Street now have a fresh coat of paint to welcome people to the city. A view from Osage Drone 6 shows a couple of dozen volunteers with Williams painting the bridge rails with the help of the Downtown Tulsa Partnership.
Next week starts the Williams "Week of Volunteering" which means more than 1000 employees around the country are doing different volunteer projects from helping animals to teaching kids how to fish. The bridge painting project was an idea from a Tulsa employee who wanted to make the space around the Williams Headquarters look more spruced up and fresh.
"We've been here 100 years, this is our headquarters, our hometown-- we wanna make it beautiful," said Tom Droege with Williams. "They helped up come up with this. We have a long way to go. It's a long handrail but we have a lot of hands to help."
"It's really a partnership between the City of Tulsa providing the paint, it's their bridge, Williams donating supplies and time, and our organization to convene these parties to gussy up the bridge," said Brian Kurtz with Downtown Tulsa Partnership. "There are thousands of people walking across this bridge."
National Volunteer Week is from April 16th through the 22nd.
