Coweta Baseball Coach Works Hard To Make Field Top-Notch For Players & Opponents

The Coweta High School baseball coach is getting some attention for the designs he mows into the field.

Mason Stookey said it's important to him for the players and opponents to have somewhere nice to play.

After the tornado in 2021 caused major damage to the field, Mason was more determined than ever to make sure his players competed on a top-notch field.

"It's all hands-on deck to take care of it and make it look like this," he said.

He's now known for creating different designs in the field; lines and hoops, testing his creativity one mowing stretch at a time.

"I called it the hurricane. The boys think it looks like the Trailblazer's logo. That was the first time we've done it here, and it actually turned out and looked pretty well, or pretty good I should say," he said.

He said his team loves it, they help out with caring for the field, and it's even helped them with their play.

"They like seeing the different patterns, they know that every pattern plays differently, the way it allows the ball to roll, into the grain, or away from the grain, or across it or whatever," he said.

He said it's great to see how far the field has come and he plans on it looking this good for a long time.

"There's a joy out of the field looking like this, being able to provide a surface that is top-notch, not only for our players, but other teams when they come here. It makes me proud," he said.

Mason said he plans to mow the field again Saturday morning to make sure it's ready for the home game at noon.
