This is a breaking news update as of 4/20/2023 at 9:05 p.m. Below is the original report:
A man is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the head in Inola Wednesday night, Rogers County deputies said.
Authorities said Jericho James Haverstick called police around 8 p.m. and said she had been shot in the head. Deputies later found the woman in a field along 595 road.

Deputies said when they arrived at the scene, they found the victim with what looked to be a gunshot to the mouth.
Deputies said during his interview, Haverstick gave conflicting reports to investigators and claimed that his girlfriend shot herself.
Haverstick then later admitted to shooting the gun and claimed his girlfriend walked in front of him, deputies said.
Authorities said the victim's injuries don't match Haverstick's stories and said it appears she was shot while laying down.
Investigators say the victim is alive but unconscious.
“We know now that we have a young lady in the hospital in very serious condition. I don’t know what the medical terms would be,” said Sheriff Scott Walton with the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office. “But we’re certainly worried about her condition.”
Walton said Haverstick is well known to local law enforcement. “He’s got an interesting recent past,” said Walton. “He was trespassed from Rogers State University recently, he’s been in the sheriff’s office here multiple times, certainly a man that clings close to law enforcement.”
The sheriff said there has been a call history with him and even others were concerned about the way he was acting.
"I was told there was a report made there of his claim of some attempted burglary or theft or whatever, and he had the neighbors in the area a little concerned as well," said Walton.
For deputies, the next steps are putting all of the pieces together and figuring out what exactly happened.
"It’s just processing the information that we have, process the evidence," said Walton. "There’s no additional witnesses to talk to, and certainly our thoughts and prayers to that young lady."
Haverstick is in jail for shooting with intent to kill.
