Jenks residents are voicing their concerns over the proposed rezoning of agricultural land to regional commercial use near 106th and Elm.
More than 100 people packed the city's planning commission Thursday evening.
Residents said rezoning would destroy and take away the very reason they live in Jenks.
The meeting covered requested amendments to the land map use, but residents were not on board.
The plan has been met with opposition from community members who are concerned about the impact on residential areas, flood planes, and increased traffic.
The commission said the request for land use would turn agricultural land north of 106th Street and east of Elm, as well another area west of Elm, into commercial land to bring more business and tourism into the area.
But residents said they don’t want this to be right in their backyard.
An attorney representing the homeowners requested a continuance, which would allow him to review documents and give 60 days before the council would take a vote.
However, the planning director denied that request because the two applicants wanted it to remain on the agenda. One of those applicants is the planning director.
