Two people are severely injured after a fire at a marijuana grow operation in Logan County. Authorities said the fire could have been a lot worse. Investigators said there are questions about the legality of this marijuana operation.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday firefighters in Logan County went to work.

“We were dispatched for a possible explosion and building fire,” said Oak Cliff Assistant Fire Chief Darrin Martin. “Guthrie Fire ambulance transported two individuals from here to the hospital in serious but stable condition.”

Investigators said the owners of this marijuana farm off Sooner Road did not have the required building permits to show the building was safe.

“Obviously some of these facilities are not to code which could result in fires and explosions or something of the nature,” said Darryl Beebe, an agent with Oklahoma State Fire Marshal.

Nicholas Nadeau is the Deputy Administrator with the Oklahoma LP Gas Administration. Nadeau said it’s too early to tell if this was a gas explosion, however he discovered something else.

“They have obtained Butane here illegally,” Nadeau said.

Butane gas is highly flammable, which is why it is heavily regulated in Oklahoma.

“We can strongly say that they are very lucky that no one was killed here today,” Nadeau said.

Nadeau said they’ll continue to investigate to find out what happened.

The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics also say they did not have a license to operate.

“This is definitely an illegal grow,” Nadeau said.

The OBN seized around 4,000 pounds of marijuana.

Martin said he is grateful no one else was hurt.

“Unfortunate there were injuries, fortunate there weren’t fatalities,” Martin said.

The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority are investigating this facility, charges are pending.
