Tulsa Public Schools Names Support Employee, Teacher Of The Year

Tulsa Public Schools has named its support employee and teacher of the year.

Carnegie Elementary Special Education Teacher Katie Bercher has been named TPS Teacher of the Year. Bercher has been with TPS for 30 years and currently supports students with autism.

The District says she's passionate about including all children and creating a sense of belonging among staff.

"It's really hard to believe. I just keep processing this over and over again. I'm hoping tomorrow I'll be able to accept or recognize that it's happening. It's been a long journey," said Bercher.

Booker T. Washington High School Safety Officer Christopher Scott was named the Support Employee of the Year.

Scott has been with TPS for two years and his colleagues say that he works hard to encourage students to stay focused and excel in school and beyond.
