A half-mile stretch of road will be closed later this week as Broken Arrow welcomes a major golf tournament to the city.
LIV Golf is taking over Cedar Ridge Country Club expecting to bring nearly 10,000 people a day to the city over the tournament’s three days. The Broken Arrow Police Department says just like with any major event, its officers will be on-site to assist with security needs and road closures.
The biggest impact for drivers will be from Friday, May 12 through Sunday, May 14. From 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. S Garnett Road will be closed between 101st and 106th.
"What we are really encouraging people to know is because of those road closures it will be hard to get down that stretch of road during the operation time,” said BAPD Public Information Coordinator Ethan Hutchins. "If you can find an alternate route and avoid the area that is the best thing to do.”
Illegal parking will also be enforced and no parking signs will be placed throughout the neighborhoods next to the country club. Free public parking will be available at Oral Roberts University with shuttles to take fans to and from the golf course.
The tournament tees off Friday with big names in golf like Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson. BAPD said it has been communicating with LIV Golf and Cedar Ridge to help make sure the event runs smoothly.
"There is a lot of attention on this tournament," Hutchins continued saying, "It is the first time this golf club has hosted this tournament so there has been a lot of discussions between the department and the golf club to make sure this is a fun environment for everybody but also a safe one."
