Temple Israel Set To Host Upcoming Concert

Temple Israel is gearing up for a concert this weekend, East Meets West Music Fest.

This year it's called United We Stand and is open to anyone in the Tulsa community. The concert is bringing together musical groups and bands from different religions and cultures to be united through music. United We Stand will feature five talents including the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church Choir, Scott Musick and Airtight, and Tulsa performers, the Jenny Labow Band.

Concert Committee Chair Rick Cohn says uniting various secular, religious, and cultural groups is symbolic.

"I think it's very important. There's a lot of hate in the world today, and there's a lot of antisemitism in the world today, but Tulsa is blessed with a wonderful community. We have stood together for many, many years together,” Cohn said.

Along with the live music, there will be food trucks, free snow cones, and face painting. Kids can also play on the playground.

"But our general community has also been much more tolerant and open community for everyone. And we just want to celebrate the joy that comes with that,” Cohn said.

Cohn encourages people to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the event.

The concert is on the East Lawn on Saturday, May 20 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"We're celebrating the unity of our community. So we thought it would be fun just to have a free concert and invite the public to come and enjoy the day,” Cohn said.
