Husband And Last Known Witness To Peggy Sweeten's Vanishing Dies By Suicide

A person of interest in the disappearance of a Delaware County woman has died, according to the Delaware County Sheriff, James Beck.

Jim Sweeten died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Thursday morning, authorities said.

Peggy Sweeten has been missing since January 1998, but her husband, Jim, was still a person of interest in the disappearance. He was the last person to see Peggy alive, authorities said.

Jim called Weslaco Police Department in Texas on Thursday morning and told police he was going to kill himself, authorities said. Jim was already dead when police arrived, authorities said.
