Early June Storm Chances For The Weekend

Warmth, humidity, and storm chances remain in the cards for Green Country as we head into the first weekend of June.

First off for our Friday, storms will again remain very isolated in coverage for most of eastern Oklahoma. Areas northwest of Tulsa and west of the Highway 75 corridor look to have the slightly higher chance for a storm to develop. Outside of that it’ll again be very warm – bordering on a bit toasty – with highs back in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees, lingering humidity, and not much of a cooling breeze.

By late Friday yet another complex of storms will be taking shape across the Oklahoma/Texas panhandles into western Oklahoma. That complex of storms will eventually weaken overnight as it heads east, but it’ll leave behind some leftover scattered showers in parts of eastern Oklahoma early Saturday morning.

With some outflow boundaries left behind in the area, scattered storms will be much more likely to flare up Saturday afternoon and evening. It may not rain everywhere on Saturday, but it’ll be a much higher opportunity than the past few days and if you have outdoor events planned, I’d have an indoor backup in mind just to be safe. Fortunately, the severe weather threat looks to stay very low on Saturday but some storms could produce gusty downburst winds.

By Sunday the better chance for scattered showers and storms starts to shift back towards central Oklahoma with a lower opportunity for scattered showers here in eastern Oklahoma as a weak upper level ridge settles in. That ridge will help bring our rain chances back down to minimal levels for at least a couple days heading into early next week, with the early summer feel continuing as highs creep back up around 90 degrees next week.
