A Green Country couple is thankful to be alive after a terrifying night during the weekend storm.
A massive steel cylinder hit their car while driving near their home.
The cylinder had already gone through fences and ditches, slowing down its momentum enough to where Sharon and her husband Corky were only injured, and fortunately, not killed.
“All of the sudden my phone went off, I told him we better go," said Sharon Wiegers.
After the storm warning, Sharon and Corky Wiegers rushed out of a casino after a night out.
As the wind speeds increased, they began to drive with much more caution than normal.
“I was going 25, 30 miles an hour. At that time, he said baby watch out, and BAM! We could not believe it.”
A 12 by 24 steel cylinder that had escaped from a nearby manufacturing company struck their vehicle.
It had slowed down after running over three fences and a ditch before hitting their SUV.
"I just slammed on the brake, turned the wheel, and went sideways into it," she said.
Sharon said they were shocked— and injured.
Corky hurt his shoulder and neck and Sharon’s legs were hurting.
“This is not normal. This is something you would not believe would happen to you.”
“I’m just devastated-- I just bought this car.”
When she got home, bad turned to worse when they realized that a tree in their front yard was destroyed.
But looking back, she’s incredibly thankful the situation wasn't any worse.
“I’m just lucky to be alive, we’re just lucky to be alive, that's all there is to it," Sharon said. "The car is replaceable but life's not."
Sharon said she's waiting on insurance to see what happens next, and hopes to drive her car soon since she has to return to work next week.
