What Is Oktoberfest?

The ‘real’ Oktoberfest is held in Munich, Germany for two weeks a year. This year it is being held from Sept. 16 to Oct. 3.

The original Oktoberfest started as a wedding celebration for a Bavarian prince in 1810. It was celebrated with days of drinking and feasting, according to Time. The celebration was such a hit that they have been replicating the festivities ever since, and has now spread across the globe as a way to celebrate German culture.
