Week 7 of the Big 12 saw Houston earn its first conference win of the season and a shootout in Stillwater that gave the Cowboys a ranked win as the top dogs OU and Texas were on a bye week.

Week 7 Winners:

Houston:

Following losses to TCU and Texas Tech to open Big 12 conference play, Houston was still searching for its first win in its new league.

Head Coach Dana Holgorson faced off against his former team and after West Va. took the lead with just seconds left, Houston hit a hail mary to win it on a Thursday night, 41-39.

Oklahoma St:

The Cowboys are starting to put the pieces together and it showed on Saturday after beating a ranked Kansas team 39-32.

The win improves OSU to 4-2, and the upset means the Cowboys have won 9 of the last 10 games as a home underdog under Mike Gundy, per Brett McMurphy.

Iowa State:

The Cyclones have stacked back-to-back wins after defeating Cincinnati in resounding fashion on Saturday as road underdogs.

The 30-10 win keeps Iowa State near the top of the Big 12 rankings ahead of a matchup with Baylor on Oct. 28.

TCU:

The Horned Frogs ended a two-game losing streak by opening a can of you-know-what on the BYU Cougars Saturday.

By midway through the second quarter, it was 24-0 TCU on the way to a 44-11 victory in Fort Worth.

TCU quarterback Josh Hoover had 439 yards and 4 TDs on 58 pass attempts.

Kansas State:

Our final winner from Week 7, the Wildcats of Kansas State took care of business on the road in Lubbock, where weird things can always happen.

Freshman quarterback Avery Johnson ran for five TDs in the 38-21 win. Coach Chris Klieman said Texas Tech was giving the Wildcats the QB run game, which is why starter Will Howard was on the bench.

KSU has lost to 5-1 Missouri on a last-second bomb of a field goal and to the Cowboys on a Friday night blackout in Stillwater.

Watch out for the defending Big 12 Champions.

Week 7 Losers:

West Virginia:

Down three points, quarterback Garrett Greene hit Hudson Clement for a 50-yard pass that resulted in a touchdown with 12 seconds left and a four-point lead, essentially ending the game.

Then, college football happened.

Houston quarterback Donovan Smith threw a 49-yard hail mary with no time on the clock that was tipped once and caught in the endzone for a dramatic win, and crushing loss, for the Mountaineers.

West Va. dropped to 4-2 (2-1 in Big 12) after being seconds away from the top of the pack with Oklahoma.

They look to rebound at home against Oklahoma St. on Oct. 21.

Kansas:

How good is Kansas this year? Yes, they're much more competitive than in the past decade but a blowout loss to Texas and collapse against OSU on Saturday raises questions about the Jayhawks in the Big 12.

KU, after taking an eight-point lead, allowed 15 straight Cowboys points to give up the lead and give OSU a win.

The offense sputtered in the second half after scoring 25 in the first.

The Jayhawks take the week off before hosting the Sooners on Oct. 28.

Cincinnati:

The losses continue to pile up for the Bearcats after a 2-0 start to the season.

On Saturday, they were favorites against Iowa State, but once the game started it was clear the Cyclones were the superior team.

The fourth-straight loss positions Cincinnati in last place in the conference.

They host Baylor for a chance at their first conference win on Oct. 21.

BYU:

The Cougars dropped to 4-2 (1-2 Big 12) after a blowout loss to TCU on Saturday.

The 44-11 loss will have to be put behind them as Texas Tech comes to town on Oct. 21.

Texas Tech:

Three wins in four games for the Red Raiders after a 0-2 start to decent teams (Wyoming and Oregon) had the Red Raiders trending up before the Wildcats came to town on Saturday.

Texas Tech never held a lead and allowed freshman quarterback Avery Johnson to run all over the field for five touchdowns.

A trip to BYU next week is a big one for both teams.

Did Not Play:

Two teams were on a Bye Week for Week 7 and both return to the field next week.

Oklahoma:

A week to recalibrate and refocus for the Sooners after a historic Red River Rivalry win is over as the Sooners look to host UCF on Saturday for homecoming in Norman.

The Sooners dropped to No. 6 in the AP Poll, vaulted by Washington after a victory over the Ducks.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel looks to build on his Heisman campaign. He currently has the second-best odds at winning the coveted award.

Texas:

Also on a bye week, Texas is moving past the Red River Rivalry and traveling to Houston to face the Cougars in a one-off conference game this season.

The historic Texas schools meet for the first time since 2002 for a conference game before the Longhorns move to the SEC next year.
