Fans Celebrate Bedlam With Watch Parties In Tulsa

Bedlam: a state of uproar. That tells you everything you need to know about the annual college football game in Oklahoma that can only be described as Bedlam. 

Since the Sooners are leaving the Big 12, both Sooners and Cowboys fans wanted to make the most out of the final game. At the watch party at Cabin Boys Brewery, flowing drinks and trash-talking were in full view.

“You’re always gonna be the little brother, I’m sorry,” said OU alumni Ben Sands. 

There was no way Sands and his friends were missing this game.

“We just saw it on Instagram, we thought it would be a good time to come out, celebrate and watch with OU fans,” he said. 

For other fans, festivities started the day before the game. The Oklahoma State University Alumni Association put on a “Bon Voyage Bedlam” party at the 5 O’Clock Somewhere bar Friday night.

OSU alumni Lindsay Cunningham says the game is a staple in the state, and means a lot to OU and OSU fans everywhere.

“It’s just been a tradition in my family growing up and then again once as a student there and now as an alumni, so it’s pretty important to those at OSU and OU to have this game,” she said. 

While she’s disappointed to see the series end, she’s looking forward to what’s next.

“It’s been a rivalry and a thing for a very very very long time, so it is a little bit sad to see them go but we’re excited about the new teams that are coming into the Big 12 and the future that we have,” she said. 

Sands is hopeful about his team’s future as well.

“I’m optimistic about joining the SEC, I think we have big opportunities there, I think recruiting will increase,” he said. 

Since no one knows if the two teams will play again, Cunningham bids the Crimson and Cream farewell.

“We wish you well, good luck in the future,” she said. 

And no matter the outcome, fans of both teams had a day full of excitement.

“Sooner born, Sooner bred…we’ll be Sooner dead,” said Sands.
