Thousands Of Tulsa Area Kids Receive Christmas Gifts Through Toys For Tots

Thousands of kids in the Tulsa area will have toys under their tree thanks to Toys for Tots.

People have been waiting in long lines for their gifts at the Broken Arrow Armed Forces Reserve Center.

"They need the presents for their kids, and it's just a good way to help the community," said volunteer Logan McLauchlin. 

Logan is passing out gifts and also taking them to cars. 

He's volunteering to get hours to earn his star rank in Boy Scouts. 

"I've been a runner, I run in and out of the building, handing out the toys and putting them in the trunks of the cars," he said.

The toys are brand new, so kids in the Tulsa area can wake up with a present under their tree just for them.

People had to submit an application and get approved for toys. Then those who were selected were able to go and pick them up. 

"Just to help the families in need in the Tulsa community, help out those who may not have a Christmas if we weren't here providing this for them," Gunnery Sgt. Lowell Jones, Toys for Tots coordinator, said. 

Several streets in the area are closed to handle all the traffic. 

Sgt. Jones says they expect thousands of people to come get gifts. 

"We will serve roughly 14,000 to 15,000 come tomorrow close of business, we hope to hit 3,000 to 5,000 a day," he said.

While helping out with the cause will get Logan to his next rank in the boy scouts, he says it's even better to be helping others during the holiday season. 

"It feels really good to help out, it's fun and you get to help people, so that's really cool," he said.
