A U.S. Senate vote on Tuesday confirmed former Cherokee Nation Attorney General Sara Hill as a district judge for northern Oklahoma.

The vote passed 52-14 and made Hill the first female Native American federal district judge in the state, according to the Cherokee Nation.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. released the following statement after the vote:

"Sara Hill earned bipartisan support, and support from an array of thoughtful individuals and organizations across the country, for the same reason Cherokee leaders placed so much confidence in her: She is a brilliant attorney with a commitment to public service, fairness, justice and rule of law."

The vote saw four Republicans, including Senator Lankford, voting Yes for Hill.
