OU fans, as well as bars and restaurants, are getting ready for the Sooners’ bowl game against Arizona. Although it is a later kickoff time than usual, the staff at Elgin Park is expecting a big turnout.
While the Sooners are preparing for a San Antonio showdown against Arizona in the Alamo Bowl, fans in Tulsa are making plans to watch the action on television.
“I’m going to be with my family watching, cheering our Sooners on,” said Julia Courcier, president of the OU Club of Tulsa.
The 8:15 p.m. local kick time has made it a little more difficult to find a place for the Club to watch the game together. Regardless, Courcier will still be watching.
“They’re pretty evenly matched,” she said. “I guess they’re predicting that Arizona might come out the victor, which is good for us, because we like to play with a little chip on our shoulder.”
One place staying up for the game is Elgin Park. Servers and bartenders at the downtown Tulsa hotspot are drawing up their own game plan.
“Definitely going to make sure we have kegs stocked cold, make sure the team’s ready to go, make sure everybody knows what to do,” said Mariah Mitchell, a bartender at Elgin Park.
Mitchell says OU games typically bring in big crowds.
“We always do really well for bowl games,” she said. “We’re hoping for a full house tonight.”
Mitchell recommends getting out a little early to find a seat if you plan on watching the game somewhere.
