The Tulsa International Airport says it is ready to handle the snow and cold temperatures.

He says they have equipment that can plow snow off the runways way faster than they could in the past.

Director of Operations Cole Brown says his team trains all year long for this type of weather, and they're ready for the snow.

They use a piece of equipment that's an all-in-one plow and broom.

"The plow's main job is to move the snow and plow it into a wind row, and then a broom comes right behind it and cleans off the pavement," he said.

He says it's able to get most of the snow out of the way, and there are other pieces they use as well.

"Then we run a high-speed plow down the opposite direction to tighten up the wind row, and then we have our snowblowers that come behind when available, and we blow the snow off into the grass after that," he said.

Brown says his team starts prepping for winter weather days before the storm hits.4

They have about 60 people ready to help, and Brown says they'll work 12 hours on and 12 hours off until the snow is gone.

He says they handle a lot, but when it comes to the airplanes, that's the airline's responsibility.

"We control zero of the airplane de-icing, aircraft de-icing, ramp operations for the airlines. We do not cancel flights; if your flight is canceled, it's because the airline canceled it," he said.

He says he's proud of his team and knows they will keep people safe.

"All the departments at the airport are constantly working on making travel safe for our customers from the time they get out of their cars to wheels up on the runway. Safety is the top priority," he said.
