A Sand Springs couple is planning a fundraiser for the end of March.

The money used to go to them to help with medical bills, but now they don't need it.

News On 6 spoke to this couple in November, and through that story, they found someone else who needed the money.

This is the first time Ray and Ashlee Hall have met Amber Cartwright.

Cartwright was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in October 2022.

The doctor gave her only a few years to live; Ashlee Hall understands. Hall was diagnosed a little over a year ago with the same cancer. Although she's doing much better, her community got her through the tough times.

"There were so many people that came out of the woodwork when I was going through my treatment,” Hall said.

That support came from a mountain bike race benefit they organized to help with Ashlee's medical bills. They plan to hold the fundraiser again on March 30th, but the money is going somewhere else.

"I think it was a week from Thanksgiving when I got a call from my friend Candace. She goes, oh my gosh, you have to call me. I have something so important to tell you,” Cartwright said. “I have seen on Channel 6 that these people in Sand Springs are looking for someone to donate to for their fundraiser.”

"It was in the final few days, Amber's story, and we knew immediately that she was the right pick,” Ray Hall said.

All the money raised from the 12 hours of Twisted Oaks will go to support Amber and her family.

"There are so many people out there who deserve it, and I can't believe I was chosen,” Cartwright said.

"It's been awesome to be able to pay it forward,” Hall said.

This might be the first time they've met - but this is a bond that will last.

The Hall’s are still looking for sponsors for the 12 hours of Twisted Oaks event.
